The Meridianus Nexion page contains no contact details and only 3 brief articles. It is difficult to know if this is genuinely Order of Nine Angles material or members, as some of the articles appear to almost mock ideas promoted by the ONA.

Recently I discovered a new Order of Nine Angles website at o9a.org. I have no idea if this website is genuine, although there is nothing to suggest it isn’t. In the right-hand column of the page, under Nexions, it lists “Meridianus (New Zealand) and links to the Meridianus Nexion website. So it appears that this may be a genuine, functioning Order of Nine Angles nexion in New Zealand.

So now to the legacy. And one has to consider that this is suitable karma for the so-called ‘authorities’ in charge of maintaining standards for Tertiary Education. By placing this wonderful piece of dribble onto the internet, with the stamp of approval of their “University” they are effectively showcasing to the world the low standards of New Zealand education. While most New Zealanders, including the so-called and “self-styled” Anarchists, accept the gospel of Academic Standards, overseas “expats”, and those researching places to study, are beginning to discover this sordid saga and be warned off parting with their hard-won (or inherited) spondulix and are being advised (or being wise enough) to seek study anywhere BUT New Zealand. Bravo, bravo! Roel, Dov, Marg, and friends. You guys are ace!

Google “Roel van Leeuwen” and have a browse around the debacle that was/is his first class Masters. His thesis is online and it doesn’t take much reading before you find yourself head scratching as to how it could have been awarded a first – and that’s before you take into account the issues with his misattributing sources, doing his research poorly and making errors that five minutes on wikipedia could have corrected. Combine that with his boasting on LJ about the possibility of BS-ing his supervisors because he chose a minority subject and discussing getting his female students to do their homework in braille on their breasts and him doing the marking at home and that should tell you all you need to know about the standard of post grad education in some NZ establishments. He singlehandedly did an awful lot to pull down NZ post grad reputations overseas (again, this is covered by a google).

My advice? Anywhere but there.

Well, I have considered whether this should be for bragging rights alone, or whether I will offer a cash prize. (Let’s be bold and say NZ$100).  I’ll say a definite yes to the prize money if I get 5 or more people seriously competing to answer say 10 serious questions relating to the thesis. Otherwise, bragging rights alone will have to do. Payment of the prize will be made by bank cheque, sent to you by post (so you will have to be willing to give your name and postal address to claim the prize) – hmm but if you’re overseas contact me if you intend to play and we will work out a payment method should you win!).

Are confessions from Roel van Leeuwen allowed?

Sorry, Roel van Leeuwen, Dov Bing, and Marg Coldham-Fussell are exempt from the competition as they have already had the opportunity to answer questions but have opted to present the thesis as a first class piece of scholarship. Let’s face it, they would never go for this challenge anyway!

And anyone who has already lodged complaints against the thesis or posted ‘expose’ type material, so as to give new punters a chance. You don’t. But let’s just say that if 5 people are willing to serious examine the thesis I think NZ$100 is a fair prize to start exposing the low standards of the thesis, and documenting the cover-up that has been done by Waikato University.

Where's Roeltje?

While Roel van Leeuwen has been very quick to state to the media that his thesis was on the topic of holocaust denial (eh? yes – that is right! He claims it was exposing holocaust denial, rather than the stated topic of satanic/neo-nazi synthesis), his own Live Journal postings give insight in his thoughts about the right to deny the holocaust; or at least the right to academic freedom to write about the holocaust in ways that ones peers might object to. Ironic given that one of his thesis supervisors (the secondary one, Dov Bing, not the primary supervisor, Marg Coldham-Fussell) was instrumental in bagging Joel Hayward (according to the various accounts on the internet).

So, the situation we have is an academic who has fabricated his thesis findings, who supports academic freedom in topics such as researching the holocaust, and being supervised by Dov Bing, who doesn’t accept this as academic freedom, who on top of this calls the kettle black in claiming someone else is a holocaust denier because they apparently published articles dealing with history relating to the holocaust. Wow, what a tangled web we weave.

My thesis topic is on religious (specifically Pagan) elements in neo-Nazism.
About six years ago Universities in NZ were hit by two ‘scandals’ which were tarred
broadly with the brush of ‘holocaust denial’- Dr Joel Hayward was taken to task over his
Masters thesis in which he said that there problems with the standard and accepted
vision of the holocaust. He is not a holocaust denier, but a historian looking at a highly
emotive topic. The second was Hans Joachim Kupka, who was a PhD candidate in
German language here at Waikato. Kupka is a holocaust denier and neo-Nazi, but its
important to note that he was enrolled in a language PhD, not in politics or history. To
cut a long story short, both investigations had something of a hysterical air about them
and I don’t believe that either investigation was conducted in an atmosphere of fairness
and impartiality. Judge for yourself. Hayward’s perspective can be found at

with Kupka is that he was enrolled in a language degree- fair enough if he was enrolled

freedom legally protected- thanks Geoff Palmer!) so it’s a bugger to see it run roughshod
over.
Both these experiences have made the NZ academic community a little bit sensitive,
particularly at Waikato, about the topic. Last night I received an e-mail from my senior
supervisor suggesting that I take onboard a supervisor who had specialist knowledge ‘in
this area’ (what area? Pagan Nazism? Is there anyone in NZ that has specialist
knowledge in this area?). The person suggested was a member of staff who was
instrumental in the Hayward case and central in the Kupka case and is (or was) a senior
member of the NZJC.

Why am I feeling a degree of unease? Lol

In reply I offered two other suggestions for a fourth (!) supervisor.
Its not a matter of having anything to hide, just that I think there was a degree of gross
unfairness in the above cases and I don’t particularly want to be in a position of having to
look over my shoulder and modify my research because of paranoia that may or may not
be groundless.

Roel van Leeuwen is one of these people... which one? Any viewers care to take a guess? Bing?

Well, looks like someone didn’t like a little expose of their misogyny, and propensity for bullshitting in the production of their thesis, and I bet even moreso didn’t want people seeing his defense of Joel Hayward and Hans Kupka which claiming “Bolton is a holocaust denier”. Poor, poor, poor Roeltje. And to know that one of your friends tipped us off regarding your livejournal entries must be a real eye opener.  Maybe it is time to come clean and admit you followed through and fudged your references and created a dodgy bollocky thesis, and then at least some of your friends may once again respect you.

If not, “watch this space” for the next revelations that come to light about the sad state of affairs that constitute Roel van Leeuwens academic career.

And remember, any female readers out there – go to the University of Waikato, where “academic rigour” involves the male tutors fantasizing about your breasts! Go Waikato!

Well, yesterday I had a meeting with my second supervisor, one I have to say I was somewhat dreading. Marg, my primary supervisor, is cool. She knows me and knows how I work and does little more than ask the occasional question along the lines of “everything going well?” and leaves it at that. Maybe its because she is a laid back quasi-hippy still working on her own PhD. Dov, on the other hand, is a professor of political science from the old school- but a cool guy. However, I haven’t had anything to show him, nor have I been in contact with him for months so when I bumped into him in the men’s toilets and he said he wanted to see me, I thought “gads, time to harden my buttocks and prepare for an arse kicking” So, at the appointed hour, I rock around to his office and with some degree of trepidation, knock and enter. We spent the next 1hr 28 mins in discussion, during which my thesis and its progress was raised on two occasions for a total of four minutes- and which he said things were going really well and he is very happy and well impressed with what I am doing. I’m sitting there thinking “What the fuck? How would you know how it’s going? I haven’t shown you anything fer Christ’s sake!” I confess I was somewhat confused and wondered if he had confused me with someone else. I can only assume he has been talking to other people and been getting a second hand opinion, but I did say I would send him through my conference papers and seminar notes so he should have some idea where I am heading with it all. What did we spend the other 1 hr 24mins talking about, do I hear you ask? Well, we discussed Iran’s relationship with the UN, Iran’s relationship to Iraq, Iraq’s relationship to Israel, Israel’s relationship to just about everyone else, US domestic and foreign policy, holocaust deniers we had met, Jews in China, his great great grandfather in Japan, the Dutch military in Indonesia during WW2, his uncle who was in the Dutch military in Indonesia in WW2, a guy he met who knew his uncle who was in the Dutch military in WW2, the Dutch War records office and corrupt historians and bureaucrats, my father who was in Indonesia after WW2, my grandmother and her resistance work, Dutch civil honours, N Korea’s relationship to Iran, Israel and the bomb, Israel’s relationship to Palestine, the use of deterrent force and how the West never got the hang on it, justifiable massacre and just war theory. I am sure I missed some bits of the conversation out, but you get the picture. After I left that I went and hung out with some folk I met after my seminar on Thurs, and talked philosophy for about four hours. Among other things they are looking to resurrect the Prior Society on campus, a philosophical and drinking society (and I mean a genuine philosophical society- in their heyday they used to sponsor speakers in from overseas and so on. But they also drank. Like fishes, apparently. Or Rhinoceroses. We are a little unclear on that point). Well, today’s mission is to start writing up more of my thesis, the topic being Satanism and its place within the neo-Pagan movement. I am arguing that Satanism is a fully fledged member of neo-Paganism based on the principle that I can not think of a good reason why it isn’t. Tomorrows mission is writing up my conference paper for the conference starting that night and running to Tuesnight. Any suggestions for good books on Satanism, any one? Well, I shall begonned to have breakfast and a cup of tea before work. Cheerio
